Frequently Asked Questions

What is your photography style?

My style is relaxed, natural and candid. I capture real moments as they happen rather than stiff, posed shots, think genuine laughter, in-between glances and the small details, not "stand here and smile." Couples consistently tell me it didn't feel like having a photographer there at all. You can see this in action in Kind Words from past couples.

How far in advance should we book our wedding photographer?

For winter weddings, book 6–12 months ahead. For peak season (spring and summer), 12–18 months ahead is best, as dates go quickly. If you have a date in mind, it's worth getting in touch sooner rather than later.

How do we book you?

Your date is secured once I've received your booking deposit and signed contract. From there, we start planning together so your day is captured exactly how you want it. Get in touch to check availability for your date.

Do you have insurance and backup equipment?

Yes. I carry full public liability insurance and bring backup camera bodies and equipment to every wedding, so you're covered either way.

Do you do consultations before we book?

Many couples request a chat before committing to anything, especially if it's a large wedding, either over video call or in person if local. It's your chance to ask questions and make sure we're a good fit.

Pricing & Packages

Do you bring a second photographer?

Second photographer coverage is available and worth considering for larger weddings (over 80 guests) or if you and your partner are getting ready in different locations, so no moment is missed. It's entirely optional and can be added to your package.

How do you make people feel comfortable in front of the camera?

I mostly use movement and provide simple, relaxed direction rather than rigid posing, think "lean into each other and laugh" rather than "stand here and smile." Most couples tell me they completely forgot I was there, which is exactly my goal.

What happens if my photographer is ill or unavailable on the wedding day?

Your date is secured once I've received your booking deposit and signed contract. From there, we start planning together so your day is captured exactly how you want it. Get in touch to check availability for your date.

Do you have insurance and backup equipment?

You'd be covered by a trusted, vetted replacement photographer through my network of over 40 local professionals who run an emergency cover group for exactly this situation. This has never been needed so far, but it means you can book with complete peace of mind.

How long do you stay at the wedding?

Coverage hours are set when you book, depending on your package, typically from bridal prep through to the first dance and beyond if needed. We'll plan your exact timeline together so nothing gets missed.

Do you offer videography?

For 2027 I will adding a short video highlight package to my portfolio, this will include highlights from your day set to music. My main focus will always be photography so if videography is important to you and you wish for speeches to be recorded I recommend you book a specialist videographer. I’'m happy to recommend trusted local professionals I've worked alongside, just ask.

How many photos will we receive?

You'll receive around 60 edited images per hour of coverage. Within 24 hours of your wedding, you'll get a sneak peek folder of around 60 highlight images, with the full gallery following within 8–12 weeks depending on the season. (peak season is a 12 week turnaround)

How will we receive our photos?

You'll get a private, password-protected online gallery to view, download and share with family and friends, with no limit on downloads. The gallery is yours to keep.

How long do you keep our photos?

Your gallery currently, stays available infinitely however I would recommend downloading and backing up your images as soon as possible, to your computer, an external hard drive, or cloud storage.

Can we print our photos?

Yes, your gallery includes print-release rights, so you're free to print your images anywhere. I also offer professional print products and albums if you'd like something lasting, just ask.

Do you offer pre-wedding shoots?

Yes, and I'd genuinely recommend one. A pre-wedding shoot helps you get comfortable in front of the camera and gives you a clear sense of how I work, ahead of your wedding day.

Where can we have our pre-wedding shoot?

Anywhere you like, a favourite local spot, your venue, a woodland walk, or somewhere meaningful to you both. The Lake District and surrounding areas offer plenty of stunning backdrops too, if you'd like suggestions.
